I did go to WIX and it looks like an OK website but it seemed to be slow on my high speed connection at home. If a website is slow with Comcast, there are people who will never let a download complete (we have 6 - 8 seconds to keep a visitors interest). The flash is cool looking but it is not good for speed or SEO. It also looks like they up-sell you into paying them at some point and their customer service is reportedly very rude and bad. If the reviews were good and the speed was better, I might consider learning how to build websites using their system. The reviews below tell me that I should not waste my time. I am happy to teach and help build JOOMLA websites for free but I cannot cost effectively learn how to build other formats. I have built over 150 websites and I pay Patrick (below) to build my larger personal projects. My best income producing website (that I built in a couple of days) is costing me $12 a year and it is a JOOMLA website. This little 20 page website makes far more income than the 4 - $1000 websites that Patrick and J.R. built for me combined. I am building two new $12 JOOMLA websites that I expect to make a six figure income for me. I will sell nothing on them and have no customer service - kind of a dreamy way to make money. This is what I teach and what I do - spend as little as possible to build low cost ($12) websites that return 10,000% or more on the investment and sell nothing. If you need a quick website, one that does not up-sell you into more fees and is controlled by you, I am here for you with JOOMLA. Before you knew how to ride a bike it was a scary proposition. Websites are the same way and they are simpler than you think. Don't give up before it clicks in your head. Visit the Kim Komando website at www.komando.com. She sells nothing; all she does is help people by making recommendations and she makes millions every year. I helped US ARMY Staff Sergent Keith McKern from Nevada build www.mckern-photography.com. His website has a $29 template (he paid for) that offers the look and controls he wanted. He has $105 into his website and the sale of "one photo each year" will pay for four years of hosting. We built it together (I was teaching him as we built it) via phone calls and when he makes that first sale from the site, his net profit will be $225 on just one sale. All of the rest of the sales will be pure profit. If you want to pay for a site and lose some control; I recommend Patrick Evans (616-805-6861) who can build a site for around $1,000, it will take 3 to 4 months to build it and there will be no yearly maintenance fees. J. R. Muller (616-403-3106) can build a site for $1000 to $1500 and a $500 yearly maintenance fee. He will tell you the site will be up in a month. This is what he told me, but it took him 6 months to build each of of the two websites I paid him to build. Call Les Berkenpas (723-1835) or look at his www.comparepriceslive.com website. He paid J.R. $1500 or more (took 6 months to build) and that original site is down and rebuilt by Michigan Web Designer in 2 days. GOOGLE the Term "amsoil west michigan" and his website comes up #2 in the search results, the term "amsoil grand rapids" does well on the first page also. I am tired of people paying their hard earned cash to have a website and end up with nothing. I never charged Les a dime to help him with his website. Lack of CASH is the single biggest killer of small businesses and my goals it to keep CASH in the pockets of people I work with. This is what I do to help people. Alan 616-634-3296 Review 1; This is an inviting programme who wants an economical and quick solution for a website. Its design features are pretty much idiot proof. That's where the positive stuff ends. Its full of bugs and the UI is unbearable to navigate and it regularly implodes and crashes if it has too many features. Every single time I use it my browser crashes. Aside from those hindrances Wix's biggest atrocity is their cowboy business approach and noddy, almost non-existent support. Whereby you ask a question and in a russian roulette fashion if you're lucky you may get a response after a day, and at that a copied link pointing to their weak and pointless support boards. The staff obviously have a job spec requirement of RUDE, SURLY and SARCASTIC and with a mental age of 10 years old. They insult people publicly on the board if you dare to complain about their ridiculous service which they have the audacity to charge a fee for and call it 'premium'. They ignore support requests most of the time or pretend nothing is wrong from where they are looking. All extremely frustrating and unhelpful. I dont know how they get away with charging people, and make statements telling people to wait while they iron out bugs (the ones they deny exist when you complain). Watch out for 'MARIO' the forum's BULLY-so called admin, dont ask him anything unless you fancy been torched. I've read numerous reviews that they continue billing after (frequent) cancelled memberships. My complaints are echoed frequently elsewhere on the web. Review 2; Over a year ago I purchased a monthly service through wix.com. They do websites, and have templates for sites like myspace, etc. Mine was purchased for my business. I used it for a few months, then attempted to cancel my services. After emailing them for SIX MONTHS, I can not get a response. I've threatened to contact the BBB. They didn't respond. I contacted the BBB. I let them know I did. They didn't respond. Since they just keep charging me (but have removed access to my account via their page, so they are essentially charging me for a service I no longer have access to), I've stopped keeping money in the account linked to the debit card that they have access to. I figure a ton of declined charges would be more inconvenient and hopefully costly to them than to just cancel the dang account like they should have 6 months ago when I first contacted them. I've since contacted my bank and am submitted them as a fraudulent charge. I'll hopefully be getting either a new debit card number or a new bank account number so they'll be unable to charge me successfully once I start keeping money in my account again. I wanted to post here and say that wix.com has the most atrocious lack of customer service I've ever experienced. DO NOT use their services. They are obviously a shady company if they knew "enough" that I wanted to cancel for them to remove my access to my account... but are still proceeding to attempt to charge me monthly even after I email them every week or 2. Review 3; Yes, it is Flash, which is not good for SEO. The site I've seen which has been created with this system does not seem to be that well SEO optimized. Some basic SEO optimization is possible, but I'm not sure if this is on a page by page basis or site-wide. Still, the results seem to look quite good - hopefully things will improve over time. Review 4; I used wix.com for a few months and loved the price and freedom of being able to customize the entire site... BUT its TOO SLOW! I ended up switching to Photobiz.com. They have excellent support and great templates. Its 125 one time fee then $15 a month for up to 200 photos. To me it was well worth it. For someone on a limited budget I would recommend building a wix site for free, but dont get too complicated. Use it to display some of your best work and make it clear that its just a temporary website. The more pictures you put up the slower it gets, and believe me you will get more complaints about the speed then compliments on your pictures. Good luck to ya! Adam Despres Despres Photography www.despresphoto.com Review 5; Donald Johnson , Feb 16, 2010; 02:44 p.m. I used this service for a short time. Did not care for it or the customer service. There were people on there forum also that were openly rude to some users. Would not suggest this service to any one really.
